Firefighter Apprenticeship

 The Forest Service is hiring wildland firefighter apprentices.
 Apply on Oct. 8-29
 The Apprentice Program develops the knowledge and basic skills necessary to work as a wildland firefighter.
 It is a paid apprenticeship, which includes a two-month residential firefighting academy at the Wildland Fire Training Center in McClellan, California.

Linly Heflin Scholarship

The Linly Heflin Unit grants scholarships for up to four years in the amount of $7,000 per year to a limited number of applicants who have both economic needs and proven academic records. Scholarships are restricted to Alabama women who are United States citizens attending four-year Alabama colleges or universities. This application form with supporting documentation must be completed by December 31, 2019. Necessary documents include academic transcripts, ACT score verification, and pages one and two of IRS Form 1040

How are you preparing for the ACT?

If you want to attend an ACT boot camp, I know about the following programs:
The University of Montevallo
A one-day workshop on a Saturday. Cost is $110 for general registration, 20% discount for children of UM employees and students receiving free and reduced lunch. The ACT Prep Course covers all ACT subjects with in-class practice testing. Each participant will receive a copy of the official ACT Test Prep book, a math review card, and other goodies. All Pencils Down
This course is designed to help students prepare for the upcoming ACT. The five-session course covers both subject contents and ACT specific strategies for all four areas (English, Reading, Math, and Science). Strategies include time management and testing tips. Homework is assigned between classes. Also included is five hours of free math resources. Rocket Reader ($15) is recommended, but optional. Videos are available for students who cannot attend a class. All materials are supplied except pencils/pens and calculators. Snacks are provided during break time. Cost is $415.
