Matt Geohagan Head Football Coach

Coach Matt Geohagan is entering his 10th season as head coach at Bibb County High School. The previous nine seasons have secured the Choctaws 87 wins and a region record of 58-5. In 2023, the Choctaws finished the season with a 10-2 record, advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, and had multiple athletes sign college scholarships as well. Geohagan is one of only three coaches in the school's history to advance the Choctaws to the third round of the state playoffs. In 2016, Geohagan was awarded the Tuscaloosa News Class 4A/5A Coach of the Year for the 2016 season after Advancing to the Second Round of the Playoffs. In 2017, the Choctaws advanced to the third round of the playoffs and ended the season with an 11-2 record. The Choctaws completed a perfect 10-0 regular season and advanced to the third round of the playoffs in 2019.  During the 2020 season, the Choctaws secured a 10-3 record and runners-up in the region. Bibb County football made it to the quarterfinals in the state playoffs for the 3rd time in 6 years and hosted a playoff game for the 6th year in a row. Geohagan’s emphasis on academic excellence matches his commitment to athletic achievements, serving as BCHS Assistant Principal as well.

Coach Geohagan supports athletes and coaches across the state by serving as President of The AHSAA District 3 Legislative Council President and ALFCA District 3 Board Member. In addition, he was selected as Defensive Coordinator for the winning South All-Star football team In 2020. In the 2022 All-Star Game, He Coached Defensive Backs for the Winning South Team As Well. In December of 2023, Geohagan will Coach Defensive Backs in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.

Prior to coming to Bibb County, Geohagan served as the Defensive Coordinator at Demopolis High School for five seasons. Before becoming a coordinator at Demopolis, Coach Geohagan coached defensive backs at Russellville High School for three seasons. During his stint in Russellville, Geohagan’s teams advanced to the state championship game two out of three seasons. Coach Geohagan began his coaching career Eighteen years ago at Demopolis, where he coached defensive line for two seasons. Prior to coaching, Geohagan attended the University of West Alabama where played safety for the Tigers for four years.

Coach Geohagan and his wife, Coty, have been married for seventeen years. Mrs. Geohagan serves as Librarian at Bibb County High School. They have two children, Mitt and Saylor.
